Healthy Kids Community Challenge

The Healthy Kids Community Challenge is an exciting community initiative that supports local communities to initiate new and enhance existing programs to give our kids a healthier start in life!  Ottawa was chosen as one of 45 communities to help kids be more active and eat healthy foods.   To learn more about this exciting project, visit the Ministry of Health and Long Term Care website or send us an email at healthykidsottawa@ottawa.ca.

As a parent, there is a lot you can do to help your child eat well, be active, and feel good.

Weeknights can be hectic for active families. Active kids come home from school and often have to be rushed out for an activity. This can be stressful for parents (and kids too)!  Too often, parents will rely on grabbing food on the run. Fast food restaurants or pre-packaged food are often go-to's but aren't always the best option. Healthy eating-on-the-go doesn't have to be difficult

 Learn more about being active in nature 

Helping your child spend time in nature can help them be healthier and happier.
  • They will be more active
  • They  will sleep better
  • They will feel calmer, and less stressed
  • They will have a better self-esteem and sense of wellbeing
